This morning... Heard my dad yelling outside and opened the door to find him clutching on to the arm of this elderly Indian man, who had managed to clamber over and onto the ledge. The guy obviously had the intention of ending his life by jumping down 22 storeys. For what reason, only God knows...

Funny thing was that throughout the whole hullabaloo of calling the police and watching helplessly as my Dad and brother held on to the man, totally insignificant thoughts were going through my mind. The cold hard fact was that there was a total stranger at the doorstep who wanted to end his life. Was I apathetic? I mean, all I could do was just stand and watch after dialing 999. Everything I did then was probably by reflex. I probably had this really blank, if not tense, look on my face through it all. Just... very unlike what I'd thought one would think in such a situation... Not that I have much of an idea what one ought to think...

Police finally arrived, together with an ambulance and 2 fire trucks... But the guys managed to get the old man over safely without all that backup. After everything was over, only then did a whole mess of thoughts flood my mind. EVERYTHING, from death to what drives people to commit suicide to would I or anyone I know turn to suicide to whether the man actually knew what he was doing... and a whole lot of other things that I simply cannot recall now... that left me feeling perturbed and muddled... a wave of emotions sweeping over me... haven't felt anything like that for so long...

I am really, really, REALLY so proud of my Dad...
