Arrrggghh... So tired right now that all I want is for my head to be on my pillow like, NOW. Just got back from watching Elephant, after a full day of field work. I liked the seamless layering of the replayed scenes, but not gonna go into any more details about it cos 1) I'm tired. 2) I'm not one to journal much of musings/afterthoughts of a movie.

Well, back track to the start of the day: Was supposed to go to one of the ponds in ECP, but when we got there in the drizzle, the water hyacinths were still lording over the pond's surface (think "carpet") so there was an abrupt change of plans. We went back to campus, got more traps, and then went to the Eco-lake in the Botanic Gardens.

I just found a place to fall in love with.

Imagine a place rich in greenery after a rain shower. A place with air cool and clean, and a sky so blue and clear with cotton candy clouds dotting it.

Staring aimlessly into the water from the bridge, things just seemed so calm and surreal. At one point of time I was sandwiched between 2 pigeons who settled on the railing I was leaning against. They probably concluded I was harmless enough, judging from how I didn't (or hardly) moved. Eco-lake pigeons are decidedly larger and fatter than your typical neighbourhood ones. I have no idea why.

Took a walk around the pond whilst waiting to haul up the traps. One major difference that sets Eco-lake apart from Swan lake is that there isn't a concrete pavement/bar separating water from land. Instead, grass and soil meets the water head on along a gentle slope.

I saw black swans whose feathers curled on their back, making them look as though they were wearing party dresses; water hens with their fluffy black chicks scuttling about in the foliage; various other birds that I was unable to identify; a squirrel climbing up a palm tree, and upon looking back, witnessed it picking out a fruit that it'd hidden amongst the tree's leaves; a black duck trying to assert its authority by chasing a pigeon off the bank; not forgetting terrapins swimming about in the water and sunbathing on the wooden pillars of the bridge. All these were observed at no more than a metre's distance, or less. Many many photo opportunities, but didn't bring my camera with me so... Bah.

It's a poor job of mine in attempting to describe what it was like to be there in the late morning today. Sigh. Anyway, Eco-lake's a great place to be at under reasonable weather conditions. Beautiful place.

Just waiting for the moment for my mum to notice and start screeching about how dark I've gotten, meaning that I've not heeded her reminders to apply sunblock etc etc. Shhh... don't tell anyone, but I got a bit sunburnt today already. Oof. This crazy Singapore weather. Tsk tsk. =)
