Yet
another lovely place discovered! We started terrapin-trapping at Lower Pierce Reservoir today. And the cool thing is that it being a reservoir and not a pond/lake, it required that a motor-powered boat brought us around the reservoir's perimeter to drop the traps in. Which of course meant more work and time taken overall, but who cares about that when the place itself is so nice?!
I liked sitting in the boat as we made our rounds. Reminded me a bit of the banana boat, with the wind whipping my face, but it didn't go as fast of course. Nor did it ever threaten to tip me overboard. But anyways. Saw swallow-like birds and fish eagles (which Neil commented that they were rarely seen in S'pore).
Picture-perfect moments but no camera, so this will have to do: Cobalt blue nylon rope against the grass of the sloping bank. The reservoir waters shimmering under the sun, gently lapping against the man-made rocky shore. And in the dense, dark green foliage of the forested area, a ray of sun strategically piercing a single leaf, illuminating it such that it stood out with startling clarity, a warm lime-green glow. Words never do proper justice to such visually touching imagery. Perhaps even film falls behind what's imprinted on the mind for that fleeting moment in time.
The entire experience of taking the boat out on the reservoir made me wish I was physically capable of conquering land, air, and sea. Away with the giddy idea of being an air stewardess (just so that I get PAID to travel), but let me be able to just take to the air or dive into the water on a whim, as if I were born for that sole purpose like an eagle or a seal were. Now THAT would be called travelling the world in STYLE. Not for the sights and sounds of cities and man-made wonders, but for the sake of seeing Earth in its natural beauty, however subtle or intimidating it can be. Sigh.
Note to self: Lower Pierce Reservoir makes for excellent personal retreat location. It never bodes well to gush overtly over anything (to me anyway). Sometimes the beauty of something can be lost due to overhype. Like how you often hear about how fantastic this dish is, only to be disappointed when you dig in as it fell below your expectations. So anyway, I digress. Just a note to self. Just started on C.S. Lewis's The Pilgrim's Regress, not forgetting that I'm currently delving into Lord Of The Rings too (for the second time).
