I distinctly remember staring slack-jawed in envious awe at the namelists tacked to the announcement board at the SEA studies department in my 2nd year. On the piece that was delegated to the Thai 3 students for their oral exam registration were names scribbled in Thai script.

Fast forward 3.5 semesters

First essay in Thai script. All 50 words of it. Yeah, baby, yeah! (Yes, we read kiddy stories in class too - it's like primary school all over again. Stop laughing!)

Oh well. If things had gone the way as I now wish they had... I wouldn't have come under the instruction of my current thai teachers, nor met my group of classmates (pretty affable lot they are!), and with that (previously) angsty perception of school, would have possibly given up on Thai too... *shudders*

It's marvellously mind-blowing when I take a step back and realise how all the pieces of life's jigsaw fall into place by His gracious hand. There will be those dark periods when I'll be too blind to perceive what's going on in the fog. But for now I can only give thanks, and know that I never deserved these things.
