Guitar Guitar.
Warning: Self-indulgent, ditzy-slanted, and most probably boring post ahead.
So I got myself a lovely suede guitar strap for the Custom Acoustic today at a steal of 17 bucks. That smell of new leather is simply... intoxicating.
Today was pretty amazing. And totally fun. Started of as totally boring though. Was bumming online until E., my project mate from JS2216, appeared on msn and somehow I ended up arranging to accompany her on a guitar shopping trip in the afternoon. Like... total yay-ness. I always like walking around guitar shops, but balk at going in
alone. Yeah, so anyway, I returned the DVDs at library@esplanade before meeting E., then we walked ard in the Adidas shop. I want that baby blue-coloured cap! (Oh I certainly do want to get
many things. Let's hope they all go on sale SOON, or better yet, I cease to want for them. HAH.)
Then we moved over to Davis', where I finally got to test out that $130 black matt Samick (which had caught my attention since the day I'd laid my eyes on it). Sweet deal for a guitar at that price - guitar ppl might flip at my wild idea of selling off the CA (solid top, pick up) and settling for the Samick (laminate top, pick up-less). But hey, it's economically sound IMHO, considering that all I really do need is something playable and decent sounding, and best of all, able to take a beating w/o breaking my heart. Ok so anyway, E. got that guitar for her friend and in the midst of that bumped into an ex-school cum churchmate B. So 2 became 3 and we went around the rest of the major guitar shops in the area.
Major highlight was when we walked into the Living Strings shop and there was this classical guitar instructor about to give a mini performance. Wrote the song himself. Sweeeet. And the guy behind the counter was such a laugh with his slapstick commentries. Nothing within E's price range in the shop, but the time spent listening to good music in a room with guitar enthusiasts was well worth it. When the guy launched into an opera piece however.... it was impressive, but.... hrm. Considering whether to take up classical guitar lessons under him (with E.).
Walked over to the other guitar hub at peace centre where we mucked around with a few guitars with E. finally deciding on a Washburn so we had to head back to Luther's. Was highly amused at the insistent manner she displayed in trying to get the guys to sell it to her on the spot despite their obvious (and well-founded) hesitations. Hey but who's to blame her. New guitar to call her own.
Yeah, so... like... there are 3 guitars sitting in my room right now. Del, the classical guitar; the nameless Custom Acoustic; and a
Timothy S7.
Incredible coincidence: B. turned out to be the seller behind that ad I'd responded to. Which explains why I now have the S7 to appreciate until whenever he chooses to have it back. Whee!
Great day. Tried out an insane variety of brands, including the gorgeous cedar top Seagull, and a solid-mahogany SX baby guitar which would make a fun addition at 200+. Better not forget that Martin DM. Eurgh. All very well that unemployment, a terribly finite bank account, and a certain degree of prudence keeps me from spending like a cash-laden looney. Let's hope this mentality remains even after I begin earning something. =/
